Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe talk about Making Beyond: Two Souls

Hans Zimmer.  Lorne Balfe.  Two Souls.

One of the most intriguing game titles of 2013 is David Cage's (Heavy Rain) BEYOND: TWO SOULS and it was recently made known that composers LORNE BALFE and HANS ZIMMER were going to be involved with it's original score.  As it turns out, Lorne Balfe will be the hand-on composer, while Hans Zimmer produces. 

The two have already made a significant mark in the video game world with work on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Assassins Creed III, but Beyond: Two Souls may be their most cinematic, game-score yet.

Sony has just released a nice, sit-down, interview with the duo.  They give us some insights into their approach for scoring this game and also share their thoughts about the unique opportunities afforded and challenges presented in the realm of video game music

We are apparently treated to a preview of the score to come when the game releases in October 2013.  Certainly sounds as though we are in for an Inception-like-experience and some dramatic, mysterious, string work.

Gametime 2009 - Interview with Jim Dooley and Mel Wesson (Infamous)

You've played the game (or at least heard the positive buzz about it). Did you wonder about that unique musical palette used for the INFAMOUS' original score? Well, our latest Gametime 2009 update features two of the composers: JIM DOOLEY and MEL WESSON. The two, long-time collaborators joined Amon Tobin, Jonathan Myers, and Martin Tillman to create the game's electrifying music. Dooley and Wesson's collaborations go all the way back to Hans Zimmer's score for HANNIBAL. They have since gone on to work on titles such as: PUSHING DAISIES, ANGELS & DEMONS, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, and THE DARK KNIGHT.

How soon we forget! Blu-rays are not your friend!

So be it...early adopters!

Before I call it a night - I wanted to just make this last post. Yesterday I received the following email from Netlfix and it is most disheartening.

As you may have heard, most of the major movie studios have recently decided to release their high-definition movies exclusively in the Blu-ray format. In order to provide the best selection of high-definition titles for our members, we have decided to go exclusively with Blu-ray as well.

While we will continue to make our current selection of HD DVD titles available to you for the next several months, we will not be adding additional HD DVD titles or reordering replacements.

Toward the end of February, HD DVDs in your Saved Queue will automatically be changed to standard definition DVDs. Then toward the end of this year, all HD DVDs in your Queue will be changed to standard definition DVDs. Following this announcement from Netflix came BEST BUY's own that they too would be moving from the HD-Neutral position and begin pushing Blu-Ray to the forefront.

Well, you Blu-rayers are getting what you THINK you've wanted. Those of us in the HD-DVD camp know that something "illusive" has been afoot - swaying so many studio presidents and online retailers without them even knowing it.

Well...in a few years it won't be just an HD-DVD logo getting "blu-rayed" it will be YOU! Someone or something else will take your place at the little blu-disc's side and you'll be left lying on the floor - helmetless, armless, and in desperate need of some sun.

As for me and a few others loyal to the republic...to democracy...we are grabbing our meager HD-DVD libraries and heading to an out of the way little swamp, where we can watch them in peace....
