Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Soundtrack to Release on Feb. 7
KINGDOMS OF AMALUR: RECKONING™ ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK SET FOR RELEASE ON FEBRUARY 7
Score by Renowned Composer Grant Kirkhope & Prague Philharmonic Orchestra
Released by Sumthing Else Music Works on Same Day as Innovative Video Game
New York - January 12th, 2012 - Marking the next step in the evolution of video game soundtracks, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning™ Original Soundtrack is scheduled for release on February 7, 2012-the same day that the highly anticipated fantasy role-playing video game becomes available. Featuring original music composed by renowned composer Grant Kirkhope, the soundtrack will be distributed through Sumthing Else Music Works-the leading video game music company created by famed musician/producer Nile Rodgers-and will be released through a licensing relationship between 38 Studios LLC and Big Huge Games.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning™ Original Soundtrack will be available at all physical and online retail outlets, and through digital download at www.sumthingdigital.com, Amazon MP3, iTunes® and other digital music sites.
Set in an entirely new universe crafted by New York Times best-selling author R. A. Salvatore, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is brought to life visually through the trademark visceral style of renowned artist and Spawn creator Todd McFarlane. With a sprawling explorable world and deep RPG gameplay at its core, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning adds a new level of intense action combat to the genre, and a one-of-a-kind advancement system as players unfold and evolve their destiny through constant character customization. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is being created under the leadership of Ken Rolston, lead designer of the critically acclaimed open-world RPGs Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Renowned video game composer Grant Kirkhope (GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, Viva Pinata) and the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra bring the magical world of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning to life with an original dark fantasy score. The cutting-edge soundtrack is just the latest release from Sumthing Else Music Works, founded in 1998 by world-renowned songwriter, musician and record producer Nile Rodgers. Rodgers' philosophy of artist-driven music, coupled with his appreciation of new concepts and products, has made Sumthing Else a leader in the relatively new genre of video game soundtracks. (SumthingDigital.com)
"Reckoning was a huge undertaking, as I knew from the start the scale of the game was going to be BIIIIIIIG!," said Kirkhope. "I wanted to make sure it was strong thematically so that the player could make real associations with characters and places; I've always tried to do this with all the games I've worked on. There's a good two and a half hours' worth of full orchestral score in Reckoning ranging from huge boss fights to smaller ensemble pieces for dungeons and cities. I wanted the score to have a dark fairytale kind of feel that was full of magic and danger at every turn just like the game. The team here at Big Huge Games created such a beautiful looking world that it was such a pleasure to score!"
Developed by 38 Studios subsidiary Big Huge Games in Baltimore and 38 Studios in Providence, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will be available on February 7, 2012 in North America and on February 10, 2012 in Europe on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and PC. Homefront Game Soundtrack by Mathew Harwood to be released by Sumthing Else Music Works
SUMTHING ELSE MUSIC WORKS ANNOUNCES
RELEASE OF HOMEFRONT™ ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK
Original Music Score Composed by Matthew Harwood,
Recorded with A-List Musicians in New York
New York - February 22nd, 2011 - Sumthing Else Music Works, Inc. proudly presents Homefront™ Original Soundtrack featuring the original music score from the highly anticipated first-person-shooter video game Homefront™ developed by Kaos Studios, a division of THQ Inc. Composed by Matthew Harwood whose previous scores include Frontlines: Fuel of War, the Homefront Original Soundtrack is scheduled for release on March 8th, 2011 to retail outlets through Sumthing Else Music Works www.sumthing.com, and for digital download at www.sumthingdigital.com, Amazon MP3, iTunes® and other digital music sites.
Set in the year 2027, Homefront is an immersive first person shooter that delivers a gut-wrenching cinematic experience. Written by John Milius (Red Dawn, Apocalypse Now), parts of the American homeland are occupied by a savage far-east alliance driven by a nuclear-armed North Korean Army. In the aftermath of a crippling global energy crisis and a decade of economic and political turmoil, America has fallen. Its infrastructure shattered and military in disarray, the USA is powerless to resist the ever-expanding occupation. A once free people are now prisoners or collaborators or revolutionaries. The plot focuses on the story of a small resistance group amidst a larger set of events.
"Homefront is so rich and compelling that creating the score to support it was both rewarding and challenging," says composer Matthew Harwood. "I would ask myself, how would I feel if this were to actually happen, how would I live, what would I do to protect my family, would I stand by and watch, or would I fight? The world of Homefront posed these questions to me in a way I was not initially expecting. Those questions were the cornerstone that I used to form an emotional compass for the compositions."
Describing the music for Homefront, Harwood explains, "Stylistically, the orchestra, which was fused with electronic elements that were supported by Asian percussion, was the brick and mortar. I also wanted to use guitars (both acoustic and electric) to help sell the locale. Asian instrumentation such as the erhu and pipa are heard to help mold the sonic quality. When we recorded the orchestra we did so in New York and it was a thrill to hear the score brought to life by the caliber musicians here in the city. To me, Homefront represents something rare in gaming, where the story and what it has to say are integral in the experience. Composing music for Homefront was a pleasure. I hope you enjoy listening!"
Homefront is scheduled for release on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC on March 15th, 2011. For more information on Homefront, visit www.DefendYourHomefront.com.

Fable II Original Soundtrack features the rich and musically diverse Fable II score composed by Russell Shaw (Fable, Black & White) as well as the Fable Theme by GRAMMY® award-winner Danny Elfman (Spider-Man, The Simpsons, Big Fish.) The Fable II score was recorded with 90 musicians including the Slovak National Symphony Orchestra at the Slovak Radio Concert Hall in Bratislava, as well as celtic instrumentalists with the Tiffin School Boys Choir and Pinewood Singers Adult Choir at Pinewood Film Studios in London, England.
”We had a lot of music to record, covering many different styles including chamber, celtic, classic, quirky, pure pizzicato, atmospheric and dramatic,” said Russell Shaw, Head of Music and Composer at Lionhead Studios. “Music for the game was broken down into four distinct categories: regions, script, combat and incidentals. Each region has its own orchestral theme which changes with the seasons in each chapter. Scripted moments have orchestral cues relevant to what is happening at that point in the story – sad, dramatic, mysterious, tension and danger. The final result is a very rich, Hollywood style score covering many genres.”
