Jesper Kyd Scores Plarium's Next Social Game - Soldiers Inc.

Composer JESPER KYD (Assassin’s Creed, Borderlands, Hitman, State of Decay) has created the original score for the upcoming video game, SOLDIERS INC.  The game will be released in the upcoming weeks from social gaming developer,  Plarium (Total Domination, Stormfall: Age of War, Pirates: Tides of Fortune).

Soldiers Inc. is a multi-player, real time strategy game set in a possible near-term future conflict. The title is inspired by present-day military forces, as players guide their soldiers of fortune across the immersive landscape of an embattled failed state to claim a vast world full of hidden content.

“Soldiers Inc. delivers gameplay, storyline, graphics, sound and music in social gaming  unlike the industry or players have ever seen,” said Avi Shalel, Plarium’s Chief Executive Officer. “Our success stems from pushing the envelope to give gamers what they want.  We don’t rely on  trial and error,  instead, we listen and deliver.”

As you can hear in the main theme above, Kyd will be delivering another bold and evocative score.  Not surprisingly, there's a strong militaristic vibe running through, but it's not a sound we often get from Kyd. Still, there are ethereal elements that momentarily work there way into the piece, which are, indeed, hallmarks of the composer's music.  The blending of these two ideas should make for a unique listen and gaming experience.

The game is to release later this summer.  No word on an official soundtrack release, but the fact that Plarium has released the main theme as a part of the promotion of the game itself would seem to be a good sign.

Keep your eyes peeled here for more on any sort of official release and if you want more details on the game, check out Plarium's site.

MARVEL MUSIC/HOLLYWOOD RECORDS PRESENTS
MARVEL’S IRON MAN 3 ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SCORE SOUNDTRACK
AVAILABLE ON APRIL 30th

Original Score Composed and Conducted by Brian Tyler

Burbank, CA -- April 5, 2013-- Marvel Music/Hollywood Records will release the original motion picture soundtrack for “Marvel’s Iron Man 3” on April 30, 2013.  Brian Tyler composed and conducted the original score.

Tyler has scored over 60 films that have grossed $3.6 billion worldwide.  He has composed and conducted the scores for “Eagle Eye” for producer Steven Spielberg; the box office hits “Fast Five” and “Fast and Furious” for Justin Lin; “The Expendables,” “Expendables 2” and “Rambo” directed by Sylvester Stallone; “Law Abiding Citizen,” starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler; the Keanu Reeves thriller, “Constantine” and the epic science-fiction film “Battle: Los Angeles.”

Tyler said, “When Marvel and Shane Black approached me about scoring ‘Iron Man 3,’ I was thrilled as a long-time fan of the series and super hero films in general. We all wanted this score to have a deeply thematic component with a strong melody. We felt that the story would lend itself best to go classic and use the orchestra as the main voice of the music, with horns and trumpets singing the new Iron Man theme in a strong way. I conducted the London Philharmonic at Abbey Road in order to give the score a sound that felt powerful enough to live up to its name. Shane Black was very supportive and collaborative in his vision for the film and the score, and Kevin Feige was also a kindred spirit in really reaching for something special.  Both of them are incredible film score buffs, and we all spoke the same film music language, which made for an awesome experience. In the end we went for a score that echoed the classics of super hero film history with a few surprises like a wild 1960s style main title piece that was an absolute blast to record.”

Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce & Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of “Tales of Suspense” (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with “The Invincible Iron Man” (#1) in May of 1968.

“Iron Man 3” is presented by Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures and DMG Entertainment. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing and Jon Favreau, Louis D’Esposito, Charles Newirth, Victoria Alonso, Stephen Broussard, Alan Fine, Stan Lee and Dan Mintz are executive producers. The film releases May 3, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Marvel’s Iron Man 3 original motion picture soundtrack will be available wherever music is sold on April 30, 2013.

Renowned video game composer Grant Kirkhope (GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, Viva Pinata) and the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra bring the magical world of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning to life with an original dark fantasy score.  The cutting-edge soundtrack is just the latest release from Sumthing Else Music Works, founded in 1998 by world-renowned songwriter, musician and record producer Nile Rodgers.  Rodgers' philosophy of artist-driven music, coupled with his appreciation of new concepts and products, has made Sumthing Else a leader in the relatively new genre of video game soundtracks. (SumthingDigital.com)

"Reckoning was a huge undertaking, as I knew from the start the scale of the game was going to be BIIIIIIIG!," said Kirkhope. "I wanted to make sure it was strong thematically so that the player could make real associations with characters and places; I've always tried to do this with all the games I've worked on. There's a good two and a half hours' worth of full orchestral score in Reckoning ranging from huge boss fights to smaller ensemble pieces for dungeons and cities. I wanted the score to have a dark fairytale kind of feel that was full of magic and danger at every turn just like the game. Christophe Beck Scores Tower Heist

Christophe Beck Scores Tower Heist

CHRISTOPHE BECK’S SCORE EXPLORES BOTH THE HILARITY AND SERIOUSNESS OF “TOWER HEIST”

Score album available on Varese Sarabande

LOS ANGELES Award- winning composer Christophe Beck creates a score that explores and extracts the hilarity behind Universal Pictures' “Tower Heist”. Directed by Brett Ratner (“Rush Hour” series), the film follows Queens native Josh Kovacs (Ben Stiller) and a group of hardworking employees at the high rise Columbus Circle, who discover they have fallen victim to the Ponzi scheme by the tenant of the penthouse suite. Kovacs bands together with his fellow employees, bringing in an outside sleight of hand to get the job done before the biggest white collar crime slips under the rug. The film opens November 4th; score album available on Varese Sarabande. Selections from the score can be heard at www.christophebeck.com Additionally, Beck recently scored “The Muppets.”

Christophe Beck, known for his ability to tell the story of the film through music, creates the tone for this movie. He stated in an interview, “It is storytelling through music and collaboration with another storyteller … the function of the music might change scene to scene, which happens a lot with comedies. Music is there to let the audience though that it is ok to laugh”. Brett Ratner said in an interview with the LA Times, “I love the tone of it [“Tower Heist”] - that’s what I’m most proud of” and this tone could be attributed to the environment in which Beck has cast these characters in through his score. .

In 2000, the cheerleading comedy "Bring It On" launched Beck's prolific film scoring career. His credits include "Under the Tuscan Sun," "Red," "Burlesque," "Year of the Dog," "What Happens in Vegas," and "The Hangover," the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all time. One of the best reviewed films of 2010, “Crazy Stupid Love” was transformed into a heart warming film by Christophe Beck, with his varying tones throughout the film that reflected a spectrum of emotion. The same year, he received the HMMA Award for Best Original Score for the powerful documentary “Waiting for Superman”.

The Montreal native graduated from Yale with a degree in Music before moving to L.A. to attend USC’s prestigious Film scoring program where he studies with notable composers Jerry Goldsmith and Christopher Young. A recommendation from the legendary Buddy Baker, led to his first assignment for the TV series, "White Fang.” Soon thereafter, he was asked to score a new TV series, “Buffy,” based on the movie “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” for which he received the Emmy.

Desplat’s other Clooney projects, Syriana and Fantastic Mr. Fox, earned the composer Golden Globe and Oscar® nominations. Desplat is fresh off scoring the summer blockbuster, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II and scales things back a bit in Ides of March, taking a darker tone for his insightful and revelatory look at the world of politics. Ides of March opens October 7th. Score album available on Varese Sarabande November 1st.

Ides of March is based on the Beau Willimon’s political thriller play “Farragut North.” During the frantic days before a heavily contested Ohio presidential primary, an up-and-coming campaign press secretary (Ryan Gosling) finds himself involved in a political scandal that threatens to upend his candidate’s shot at the presidency. In 2011, his score for The King’s Speech won a BAFTA and received Oscar®, Golden Globe and Critics Choice nominations. Next up for Desplat is The Spider’s House which marks his second collaboration with director Peter Webber.

Resistance 3 to feature music by Boris Salchow

Resistance 3 to feature music by Boris Salchow

INSOMNIAC GAMES' RESISTANCE 3 FEATURES
DRAMATIC MUSIC BY FILM COMPOSER
BORIS SALCHOW

Original Cinematic Score for 1950's Alternate History Sci-Fi
Video Game Recorded at Iconic Abbey Road Studios

Los Angeles, CA - June 29th, 2011 - Following the critical acclaim of his rousing music score for Insomniac Games' Resistance 2, Los Angeles-based film composer Boris Salchow (80 Minutes, Prom Night) returns to craft a darker cinematic soundtrack for RESISTANCE 3 - reflecting the struggle of the remaining group of human survivors against an overwhelming force of alien invaders. To capture an authentic and unique sound for this alternate history sci-fi story set in the 1950's, Salchow and Insomniac recorded the emotionally diverse musical score with orchestra at the historical Abbey Road Studios in London. Developed exclusively for PlayStation 3 by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, RESISTANCE 3 will be released on September 6, 2011.

Set four years after the end of Resistance 2, dishonorably discharged Sentinel Joseph Capelli has given up fighting the Chimeran menace. Now he's in hiding with other survivors, including his wife and young son. When Dr. Fyodor Malikov arrives with the plan to defeat the occupying Chimeran force, Capelli must leave his family and journey the harrowing road from Oklahoma to New York City. Along the way, he'll encounter the remnants of humanity left in the aftermath of the brutal Chimeran invasion.

Resistance 3 to feature music by Boris Salchow

Paul Mudra, Audio Director, Insomniac Games: "For RESISTANCE 3 we required a composer who would be able to interpret the nuance of mankind's struggle for survival in a brutal world and create an engaging and emotive score. Boris spent many hours at our studio becoming familiar with the story, meeting with several key members of the development team and immersing himself in our process and culture. The soundtrack that Boris composed is compelling and a perfect fit for the game. We consider it to be a key part of the overall RESISTANCE 3 experience."

Marcus Smith, Creative Director, Insomniac Games: "Working with Boris has been a dream. I've never had the pleasure of working with someone so committed to the project as a whole; Not only did he spend lots of time with us at our studio listening and asking questions, but he'd also make great suggestions on story, pacing and character development. The soundtrack he delivered is stunning in its intricacy, delicacy and humanity."

Resistance 3 to feature music by Boris Salchow

Boris Salchow, Composer: "In RESISTANCE 3 human civilization as such is gone. People flock together in small groups, trying to survive as long as possible. Not even a military organization is left. The soundtrack reflects this - instead of military elements, we find some very intimate sounding compositions where I use piano, woodwinds, a boy soprano and somber string arrangements. For this setting, it was crucial to record the score live since the RESISTANCE 3 score describes the emotions of the survivors. Going to London and recording this music with such incredible A-list musicians at this historical venue was the perfect match for the game, and it was an incredible honor for me personally. I am very thankful that Insomniac made this happen."

RESISTANCE 3 is powered by Insomniac Games' fifth-generation PlayStation 3 technology. Featuring new upgradeable weapons, the return of the weapon wheel, two-player online or split-screen campaign co-op and a progression-based multiplayer experience, RESISTANCE 3 delivers a heroic-yet savage first-person shooter experience for PlayStation 3.

Hunted: The Demon's Forge Composed by Kevin Riepl

HUNTED: THE DEMON'S FORGE™ SOUNDTRACK FUSES ORCHESTRAL BOMBAST AND DARK SOUNDSCAPES COMPOSED BY KEVIN RIEPL

May 23, 2011 (Los Angeles, CA) - Award-winning genre music composer Kevin Riepl (Gears of War, Clemency, Huxley) has created the original score for Hunted: The Demon's Forge™, a third-person co-op fantasy action game developed by inXile Entertainment for Xbox 360®, PlayStation®3 and Games for Windows. Hunted is scheduled to be released in North America on May 31st by Bethesda Softworks.

To enhance the visual intensity and energetic gameplay of Hunted, and immerse players in the dark fantasy action adventure, Kevin Riepl has crafted an emotive, rhythmic score blending orchestral bombast with modern percussion; electric and bass guitars; ethnic instrumentation; and evocative vocals.

"Kevin Riepl was a blast to work with during the production of Hunted. He is totally committed to delivering music that fits the scenes perfectly," said Chris Keenan, Design Director, inXile Entertainment. "His early compositions even helped to inspire our internal team with some of the level design. The dark and haunting style of Kevin's music made our world that much more intense."

"Collaborating with inXile has been an immensely creative and rewarding experience. Their creativity, passion and attentive involvement throughout the process made my 'job' a real pleasure," said composer Kevin Riepl. "From the very early stages of development, when I received the first concept art, it was clear that Hunted required a sonic signature. The detail in the illustrations played a major role in inspiring the creation of customized sounds and instruments to enhance the dark unrelenting environments and eerie atmosphere of the game."

Set in a dark fantasy world, Hunted is an epic cooperative action game, pitting you and your partner against waves of vicious enemies. Taking control of either E'lara, a ranged weapon expert, or Caddoc, a master swordsman, you must use a variety of weapons, powerful spells, and cover tactics to battle your way through menacing dungeons, overgrown ruins, and downtrodden towns. Hop Lays Golden Egg - Score by Christopher Lennertz

Hop Lays Golden Egg - Score by Christopher Lennertz

HOP LAYS GOLDEN EGG

HIGHEST GROSSING OPENING WEEKEND OF 2011

SCORE BY AWARD-WINNING COMPOSER CHRISTOPHER LENNERTZ

LOS ANGELES – The adventures of EB and Easter Island are number one at the box office. Universal Pictures' HOP made an estimated $38.1 million to claim the title of highest-grossing opening weekend in 2011 so far. The film is scored by award-winning composer Christopher Lennertz, who also collaborated with HOP director Tim Hill on 2007's box office champion Alvin and the Chipmunks. Starring Russell Brand and James Marsden, this combination of state-of-the-art animation and live action tells the tale of an out-of-work slacker who injures the Easter Bunny and must take him in while he recovers. The score album is available on Varèse Sarabande Records.

Director Tim Hill describes Christopher Lennertz’s score for Hop as “lush, diverse, vivid, magical, playful and yet unified.” He went on to say, “I really love what Chris did with his themes and how he kept percussion alive in the orchestration throughout. He found places to elevate scenes with colors and punctuation where I hadn’t thought it possible. The score has so many great touches, ranging from a classic animation style to blues-based and percussion driven pieces, all of which add up to a thrilling listening experience.”

Hop producer Chris Meledandri (Despicable Me, Ice Age) was also impressed with Lennertz’s score for the movie: "Chris has written beautiful music for our film. As a storyteller, the music has unquestionably added another dimension to the film weaving narrative, evoking emotion, building suspense and supporting humor,” he explains. “When you take the film away, these compositions stand on their own; in fact, they soar."

Lennertz’s film credits span from major family films Alvin and the Chipmunks, Marmaduke, and Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, to political thriller The Deal, starring Christian Slater and Selma Blair, to Soul Plane, a collaboration with RZA of Wu-Tang Clan. His successes in television include the CW’s Supernatural. Lennertz’s scored Stephen Spielberg's videogame Medal of Honor: Rising Sun, which led him to score more Medal of Honor games as well as the popular James Bond videogame. Awards and nominations include an Emmy nod, three Film & TV Music Awards, a BMI Film Music Award, and the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Award. He recently spearheaded The Concert for Haiti, an orchestral concert piece combining original Lennertz music with many other leading film composers to benefit the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Michael Giacchino: First Recipient of the Colburn Prize

Michael Giacchino: First Recipient of the Colburn Prize

It was announced today, April 4th, that Michael Giacchino, composer of the Academy Award winning score for UP and the creative mind behind the iconic Hollywood soundscapes of LOST, Alias, Ratatouille and The Incredibles, will be honored with the first-ever Colburn Prize.

Giacchino will receive The Colburn Prize at the annual Celebrate Colburn gala on April 5th held in school’s main plaza in downtown Los Angeles. At this sold out event, Giacchino will lead The Colburn Orchestra in a performance of his original works: Theme from UP and “Oceanic 6” from LOST. Also performing are the brightest talents in music and dance from all divisions of The Colburn School. The concert’s highlights will include nine year-old piano prodigy Ray Ushikubo, a jazz performance from the Trudle Zipper Professional Training Program, and collection of pieces, from Mendelssohn to the “bottleairs”, performed by conservatory students. Toby Mayman, Honorary Life Director of The Colburn School, will be honored with the Richard D. Colburn Award.

Upon receiving the award announcement, Giacchino said: “I am honored to be the first person to receive the Colburn Prize. I have had the pleasure of working with the Colburn Orchestra and the students here on a number of occasions, most memorably, the LOST concert finale program. It is incredibly moving to see such talent and commitment to the study of music. Colburn students perform at the highest level of international standards. I believe that an education in music and the arts is just as important as one in math and science. A dedicated and prestigious school of music like Colburn is a treasure for California and in fact, for the world. I am thrilled to support Colburn as it continues to develop the artists of tomorrow.”

Sel Kardan, President and CEO of the Colburn School: “Mr. Giacchino’s success combined with his enduring advocacy for arts education serves as a outstanding model for our students. We cannot imagine a better person to honor with the first Colburn Prize. His musical vision has not only inspired the those in the Colburn community, but is an immense gift to music lovers around the world.”

Michael Giacchino’s first major composition was in 1997 when newly formed DreamWorks Interactive asked him to score their flagship PlayStation game, The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Based on the hit movie of the same name, the console game was the first to have a live orchestral score. Since then, he has lent his genius to much of the modern Hollywood landscape, winning two Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe, a Bafta and an Oscar in the process. He has illustrated a long-standing commitment to the arts from his Camden 2000 composition, which benefited that city’s arts programs, to his current advocacy for arts education in Los Angeles’ public schools.

The Colburn Prize recognizes exciting artists who, through their contemporary work, embrace the Colburn tradition of excellence in the arts. An inspiration to Colburn students, honorees represent innovation, enthusiasm and distinction in their chosen field. In this inaugural year of The Colburn Prize, the school honors American composer Michael Giacchino for his outstanding scores for movies, television and video games. The award is in recognition of Giacchino’s fluidity and grace in adapting musical styles for projects ranging from humorous and touching animated films to dark and ferocious video game scores, while remaining committed to education and community including: Variety’s Power of Youth initiative, Education Through Music Los Angeles organization and The Colburn School.

Recipients of The Colburn Prize will continued to collaborate with the school on projects, bringing their distinct brand of artistic excellence and inspiration in fresh and exciting ways to the students and faculty
of the school through collaborative projects such as new performing arts works.

BIOWARE™ HIRES COMPOSING TEAM TO CREATE THE “ARRIVAL” SOUND

Original Mass Effect 2 DLC Soundtrack Features the Work of Sascha Dikiciyan and Cris Velasco

Los Angeles, CA – March 28th, 2011 – The game industry’s top composing team, Cris Velasco and Sascha Dikiciyan, have created an original hybrid-orchestral score for the biggest Mass Effect™ DLC yet, titled “Arrival.”

Known for their unique ability to merge orchestra with heavy electronics, Velasco and Dikiciyan created an epic score influenced by the likes of Vangelis and Tangerine Dream. “We wanted to pay homage to the great 80s sci-fi -sound of the first score while moving the music forward, delivering a sound that matched the cinematic quality of the game,” says Velasco. “Sascha and Cris perfectly nailed the retro-futurism style that has become a key part of the Mass Effect franchise,” says Rob Blake, Audio Lead for Mass Effect 2.

In “Arrival,” the final DLC, Shepard will travel to the edge of the galaxy, rescue an undercover agent and discover the truth about the Arrival. Admiral Hackett, a favorite of the series, will be playing a prominent role in the new mission. This exciting final mission will act as the bridge for the new upcoming game.

“Arrival” will be available on March 29 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. For more information,

Cris Velasco and Sascha Dikiciyan are two of the most in-demand composers in the video game industry today, having scored more than 30 AAA game scores. Their unique fusion of cutting-edge electronica and cinematic orchestra have garnered critical acclaim for versatility and fearlessness of pushing the boundaries of music – whether it’s composing an elegant string arrangement, dramatic orchestral score, hard-hitting rock tracks, or raw electronic beats.

Homefront Game Soundtrack by Mathew Harwood to be released by Sumthing Else Music Works

Homefront Game Soundtrack by Mathew Harwood to be released by Sumthing Else Music Works

SUMTHING ELSE MUSIC WORKS ANNOUNCES
RELEASE OF HOMEFRONT™ ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK

Original Music Score Composed by Matthew Harwood,
Recorded with A-List Musicians in New York

New York - February 22nd, 2011 - Sumthing Else Music Works, Inc. proudly presents Homefront™ Original Soundtrack featuring the original music score from the highly anticipated first-person-shooter video game Homefront™ developed by Kaos Studios, a division of THQ Inc. Composed by Matthew Harwood whose previous scores include Frontlines: Fuel of War, the Homefront Original Soundtrack is scheduled for release on March 8th, 2011 to retail outlets through Sumthing Else Music Works www.sumthing.com, and for digital download at www.sumthingdigital.com, Amazon MP3, iTunes® and other digital music sites.

Set in the year 2027, Homefront is an immersive first person shooter that delivers a gut-wrenching cinematic experience. Written by John Milius (Red Dawn, Apocalypse Now), parts of the American homeland are occupied by a savage far-east alliance driven by a nuclear-armed North Korean Army. In the aftermath of a crippling global energy crisis and a decade of economic and political turmoil, America has fallen. Its infrastructure shattered and military in disarray, the USA is powerless to resist the ever-expanding occupation. A once free people are now prisoners or collaborators or revolutionaries. The plot focuses on the story of a small resistance group amidst a larger set of events.

"Homefront is so rich and compelling that creating the score to support it was both rewarding and challenging," says composer Matthew Harwood. "I would ask myself, how would I feel if this were to actually happen, how would I live, what would I do to protect my family, would I stand by and watch, or would I fight? The world of Homefront posed these questions to me in a way I was not initially expecting. Those questions were the cornerstone that I used to form an emotional compass for the compositions."

Describing the music for Homefront, Harwood explains, "Stylistically, the orchestra, which was fused with electronic elements that were supported by Asian percussion, was the brick and mortar. I also wanted to use guitars (both acoustic and electric) to help sell the locale. Asian instrumentation such as the erhu and pipa are heard to help mold the sonic quality. When we recorded the orchestra we did so in New York and it was a thrill to hear the score brought to life by the caliber musicians here in the city. To me, Homefront represents something rare in gaming, where the story and what it has to say are integral in the experience. Composing music for Homefront was a pleasure. I hope you enjoy listening!"

Homefront is scheduled for release on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC on March 15th, 2011. For more information on Homefront, visit www.DefendYourHomefront.com.

Jane Eyre Soundtrack Dario Marianelli with Jack Liebeck

Jane Eyre Soundtrack Dario Marianelli with Jack Liebeck

SONY CLASSICAL RELEASES SOUNDTRACK TO JANE EYRE
Score by Dario Marianelli
Performed by violinist Jack Liebeck
Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Available March 8, 2011

Focus Features Opens Film March 11 –
JANE EYRE Stars Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender

Sony Classical is delighted to announce the release of the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack of Focus Features’ new film Jane Eyre, available March 8, 2011. Academy Award-winning composer Dario Marianelli (Atonement) has created a romantic and moving score, performed by violinist Jack Liebeck, as the perfect complement to the new movie version of the celebrated story. Jane Eyre opens in New York and Los Angeles on March 11, and expands to additional cities throughout March.

Dario Marianelli’s Jane Eyre score heavily features a solo violin, recorded for the film by the 2010 Classical Brit Award-winning violinist Jack Liebeck. Marianelli is known for the gift of capturing the emotional and poignant elements of a story in his music. His score for Atonement earned him Golden Globe and Academy Awards, and his work on Pride & Prejudice was also Oscar-nominated. His other film credits as composer include Eat Pray Love, Agora, The Brave One, The Soloist, Everybody’s Fine, and V for Vendetta.

In the bold new feature version of Jane Eyre, director Cary Joji Fukunaga (Focus’ Sin Nombre) and screenwriter Moira Buffini (Tamara Drewe) infuse a contemporary immediacy into Charlotte Brontë’s timeless, classic story. Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland), Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds) star in the iconic lead roles of the romantic drama, the heroine of which continues to inspire new generations of devoted readers and viewers.

In the 19th Century-set story, Jane Eyre (played by Ms. Wasikowska) suddenly flees Thornfield Hall, the vast and isolated estate where she works as a governess for Adèle Varens, a child under the custody of Thornfield’s brooding master, Edward Rochester (Mr. Fassbender). The imposing residence – and Rochester’s own imposing nature – have sorely tested her resilience. With nowhere else to go, she is extended a helping hand by clergyman St. John Rivers (Jamie Bell of Focus’ The Eagle) and his family. As she recuperates in the Rivers’ Moor House and looks back upon the tumultuous events that led to her escape, Jane wonders if the past is ever truly past…
